Quiz games for students

A quiz game is one of the easiest ways to review a unit. Students work in teams, talk through answers and see their score grow.

Why quiz games work for review

Answering questions from memory is good practice in itself; researchers call it retrieval practice. A game adds a reason to try hard, and teams let quieter students take part without being on the spot alone.

Five ways to use them

  1. Test review: one category per topic of the unit, harder questions at higher points.
  2. Exit ticket: a five-minute board at the end of the lesson.
  3. Students as authors: each group writes one category for the others.
  4. Vocabulary: show the definition and ask for the word.
  5. Warm-up: a single survey round to start the lesson.
